Quilting is a sewing method done to join two or more layers of material together to make a thicker padded material. A quilter is the name given to someone who works at quilting. The process of quilting uses a needle and thread to join two or more layers of material together to make a quilt. Typical quilting is done with three layers: the top fabric or quilt top, batting or insulating material and backing material. The quilter's hand or sewing machine passes the needle and thread through all layers and then brings the needle back up. The process is repeated across the entire piece where quilting is wanted. A straight or running stitch is commonly used and these stitches can be purely functional or decorative and elaborate. Quilting is done on bed spreads, art quilt wall hangings, clothing, and a variety of textile products. Quilting can make a project thick, or with dense quilting, can raise one area so that another stands out. Quilting can be done by hand, by sewing machine, or by a spacialist longarm quilting system. Q. I have everything ready to start quilting, but I am unsure if it matters where I start. Should I start in the middle and work my way out, or start with the straight lines across or up and down? Should I start from the same side every time or alternate sides? I made sure it is pinned tightly and I have a walking foot. Is there anything else I should be doing? This is a lap quilt so it isn't that big. Any help would be wonderful!! Thanks Asked by crurban123 - Wed Nov 28 10:37:59 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Start in the center and work out to one edge, then break off and go back to the center again, to work out to another edge. You can go back with a hand needle and tie off all the thread ends and bury them in the quilt. You'll notice that even with a walking foot, the top will travel a little bit, so you want it to travel evenly on all sides. That's why the batting and backing should be cut bigger than the top, and you don't bind the edges til the quilting is done. . . My sister-in-law is having her baby shower in one week and I am just so excited I wanna create more things! But don't have that much money as I am a college student so I have already made a diaper cake and baby sock rose bouquet is there ANY other things to create that do not require knitting/quilting? She is having a baby boy! :) Asked by linkinparklover211 - Fri Aug 7 20:36:03 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. why not make a new mummy tool kit? get a pretty basket and fill it with the things she will need as a new mum-eg. a toiletries bag full of little pamper products for the hospital, picture hooks so she can hang all the pictures of her little bundle of joy, a small travel sewing kit ( I am always reaching for mine to mend the tears of my best friends childrens clothes!), travel tissues as new mums can get rather teary, and a small novel in one of her fave types to help fend off the boredom that often hits new mums. Answered by tamara k - Fri Aug 7 21:08:01 2009 I Need to seal a concrete floor in a basement used as a quilting studio, what is best choice?
Q. My basement floor is unsealed, it produces a dust like substance. I use the space as a quilting studio and this dust gets on my batting and fabrics. I cleaned the floor repeatedly but the "dust" problem just comes back. Is this a by product of concrete curing? The house is only 5 years old. Asked by Kay A - Wed Jan 17 11:05:03 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. One of the best and most durable ways to seal a concrete floor is with epoxy paint there are several on the market some even have peaces of color you sprinkle on while the paint is still wet that make a very attractive finish.
