An organization (or organisation — see spelling differences) is a social arrangement which pursues collective goals, controls its own performance, and has a boundary separating it from its environment. The word itself is derived from the Greek word organon, itself derived from the better-known word ergon. In the social sciences, organizations are the object of analysis for a number of disciplines, such as sociology, economics, political science, psychology, management, and organizational communication. In more specific contexts, particularly for sociologists, the term "institution" may be preferred. The broader analysis of organizations is commonly referred to as organizational studies, organizational behavior or organization analysis. GNU Free Documentation License What organizations can I volunteer at that do not deal with the needy? Q. Before the summer ends, I would like to do some volunteering with organizations that do not deal with the needy. I do not want to work for the homeless, the handicap, handicap children or the elderly (handicap or not). I also hate calling folks on the phone for blood or donations. My only explanation that I can give for my avoidance is that I do not have the patience or I am afraid that I would get too concerned about there lifes. I simply do not want to get involve or make any sort of "friendships" that may carry long time commitments. Thanks Asked by needanid00 - Fri Jul 6 22:28:38 2007 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments A. Answered by sweet_leaf - Fri Jul 6 22:48:11 2007 What national charity organizations sponsor walks, run, ride, or skate marathons? Q. I'm looking for something like Team In Training or 3Day, but I can't find anything other than those two. I did an 60 mile Walk for AIDS a few years ago and would like to do something like that again. I want an organization that I train for the event (with their assistance, like they have coaches) and that I fundraise for the event at the same time. Any ideas on where to find these organizations?? Asked by libraryn71 - Thu Feb 14 12:15:51 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Team in Training really is the best well-known. The only other one I can think of is the Danskin Women's Triathlons -- I know they are held in at least Austin, Texas and Orlando, Florida. Answered by Jayne says READ MORE BOOKS - Thu Feb 14 14:19:16 2008 Do you know of any charitable organizations I could donate books to?
Q. Does anybody know of any charitable organizations in the San Fernando Valley (CA) that would accept/need a donation of books? It has to be a group/organization that would not resell them. We have boxes of leftover holiday clearance books that need a home. Most of them are children's books, but some are for adults. I would be grateful for any information you could give me! The only reason I say it cannot be an organization that will resell them is because those are our company rules, or else we cannot donate the books. The local United Way can direct you to homeless shelters that house moms and kids and to domestic violence shelters. Kids and moms in shelters have had to leave behind a lot of things including books and books will encourage reading. Another possibility is to call your local schools and ask to speak to the hiomeless students coordinator. Your books can help make difference by opening the doors to reading for pleasure to kids who may never have owned a book of their own before.
