The reason I have included the quilting bee myth here is that the frequency of quilting bees has been greatly exaggerated and most quilting was not done as part of a bee The painting of a quilting bee by Grandma Moses is a perfect example of an idealized quilting bee It s a delightful representation of a gathering of women quilting around the frame while others prepare a

Advice needed; how can I get along better with my Amish neighbours?
Q. We live in the country part of Los Angeles, you know, the Hayseed district, and several of our neighbours are Amish. Jedidiah and Patience are usually good neighbours, but Patience really went over the line the other night! Patience was hosting a quilting bee, and it got way too loud! Since the weather was so warm and it was still light, they were quilting outside, and Patience, who had imbibed a little too much hard cider, started a catfight with Sarabelle, and you wouldn't believe the filthy language that was shouted above those quickly stitching fingers! In all my life, I never heard so many "f*** thee's", and "kisseth my ***'s"! Patience even told Sarabelle, "Thou art a filthy c***, and if thee were giving thy man what he needed, he… [cont.]

A. Oh my G--. I didn't know we lived in the same county. I haven't seen an Amish person since I was in Salem, Indiana. The best thing to do is if they are in town selling there homemade bread, buy them. They make good zucchini bread, banana bread, and carrot bread.

Good book recommendations for my mom?
Q. Buying gifts for my mom is never easy, but she loves to read, so I feel I can't go wrong with books. She has good taste in books, her favorites are these: -The Coal Tattoo by Silas House -Clay's Quilt by Silas House -The Secret Life of Bees -(not sure who the author is, but it is a well known book so I am guessing everyone knows what it is) -She also loves the Harry Potter series. She hates Twilight. She loves southern fiction. She is not a big fan of Nicholas Sparks even though she loves stories about North Carolina (where we live) She dosen't really like mystery and stuff like that, Kay Hooper lives 5 mintues away from us but she hates her books. Any recommendations? Any help is appreciated. Both her and my Dad graduated from… [cont.]

A. If she likes reading humor.. Mary Kay Andrews is a good author. She is from Georgia and all her books take place there. Jane Green is also a great fiction writer - I would recommend "Dune Road" or "The Beach House". Lauren Willig has a great series.. The first book is "The Secret History of the Pink Carnation". Another good series is the "Outlander" series by Diana Gabaldon. Good luck!
