GNU Free Documentation License What would you do to boost the profile of Rugby League as a truly global sport? Q. Here we are, some ten months after the last Rugby League World Cup. It's apparently been forgotten now as everybody is concerned with their domestic competitions and club allegiances. What we as followers of the game learn from the tournament was the same story as in previous decades: the order of rugby league playing nations will continue to feature the Big Three (Australia, New Zealand and England). If you were a member of rugby league's world governing, what would you suggest as practical areas to make the game global and competitive? Asked by St. Patrick of New Ireland - Sun Jul 26 01:13:12 2009 - - 8 Answers - 2 Comments A. mate...good question, certainly we have the best sports package in Australia, and the big 3 (kangs, Kiwi, Lions) do hold their own. But I think RL has to be smart. They should start introducing the game in Countries that have a big union following. I'm sure when they see a different brand of Rugby, that's tough, fast & exciting it would only be a matter of time. Like anything, it will cost a lot of money, but I think if the 3 big competition, plus the French combine their financial arsenal together and start venturing into countries like Japan, South Africa & even Russia, Italy (and not forgetting US), you can build the game from the financial interest in those markets. But that's just a thought from a die-hard RL punter! I think the RL… [cont.] Answered by Nan - Sun Jul 26 01:47:09 2009 What are the basics of a prop in rugby union? Q. Hey guys, Im hoping you can help me, Im 23 years old, am 6`2 and weigh 118 kilos. Im pretty fit, running 6-8 ks, most days along with hard weights training, Id really love to play rugby union. I was wondering if you could tell me how hard the game is to learn, and what are the responsibilities of a prop? I appreciate any help you can give, cheers guys. Asked by ryan h - Fri May 15 08:17:08 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The game is pretty easy to learn. The first club I played for, none of us had played before, but we won our first game after about 3 training sessions. The prop usually follows the ball around, like any forward. But they are only expected to get to every second one. In the scrums, they are the key for your team. The lower you get, the more power you get. In the first year I played, we had the smallest pack, but we had the best scrum because our props were the best. Q. I know rugby was invented in England, but who is tops? Asked by Wickedone - Tue Nov 10 22:39:56 2009 - - 11 Answers - 1 Comments A. Historically New Zealand has the best record, but at the moment South Africa is rated number 1. Best team north of the equator is currently Ireland, who go head to head with South Africa in Dublin on November 28th. Hopefully it will be rainy and cold as hell(?), as that will bother the Irish side less. If you are really interested the IRB (International Rugby Board) has a formal rating system.
